A Reading school has raised almost £130,000 to construct a new eco-friendly outdoor classroom. The Local Planning Authority recently authorized plans for the classroom, which will be designed in the style of the Iron Age.

Reading’s Wren school on Bath Road wants to provide kids with a “alternative outdoor learning space.” The new classroom, which will be surrounded by trees and environment, will serve as a haven for counselling and therapy sessions.

The school launched a fundraising campaign on the Good Exchange in 2021, describing how it wants to “return to the wise ways of our ancestors, building in a circular form, in accordance with nature.” By way of sustainability, the classroom will also honor nature.

“Whenever possible,” the structure “saves and reuses energy and material.” Insect and hedgehog habitat boxes and planters will also be available to assist promote local wildlife.

The council has now given its full approval for the construction of this classroom. A previous report raised concerns about the classroom’s location due to its proximity to several trees that must be safeguarded.
