Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared that the UK will deploy additional ambulances and provide cash to educate Ukrainian physicians to deal with huge casualties.

More fire engines and medical equipment are also being delivered to Ukraine as part of the government’s ongoing assistance for the country, more than two months after Russia’s first invasion.

As part of the assistance, the prime minister said that 22 additional ambulances will be dispatched to Ukraine, in addition to the 20 delivered three weeks earlier by NHS trusts.

They will be outfitted with paramedic equipment and medical grab bags and will go for Ukraine in the coming days.

Since the invasion began on February 24, there have been more than 135 attacks on healthcare facilities, prompting Kyiv to seek ambulances, medical supplies, and mass casualty training.

In the nearly nine weeks after Russia’s invasion, the UN has registered approximately 4,800 civilian casualties, including 2,072 fatalities and 2,818 injuries. The actual results are projected to be far higher.

The Foreign Office would provide up to £300,000 to the medical assistance organisation UK-Med to help train Ukrainian physicians, nurses, and paramedics on how to cope with large casualties.

The organisation will establish mobile health clinics to assist the most vulnerable citizens who have not evacuated Ukraine.
