According to authorities, a Philadelphia man enjoying a smoke break outside his home “turned the tables” on an armed would-be robber when he pulled out his own legal pistol and fatally shot him. “It seemed that a robbery victim, at this time, turned the tables on a would-be robber and shot him in the head,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told NBC 10.

The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in South Philadelphia near Moyamensing Avenue. According to police, a 24-year-old guy smoking outside his home informed them that a would-be robber approached him while riding his bike, pulled out a revolver, and “announced a robbery.”

According to authorities, the householder pulled out his own legal carry gun and opened fire on the would-be thief. The suspected robber was wounded in the head but was able to fire a few rounds, according to the 24-year-old South Philly guy.

“According to the 24-year-old who fired the shot, the culprit grabbed his gun and fired one or two bullets after being shot in the head, but did not strike the 24-year-old who fired the original shot,” Small added.

Police arrived on the site and discovered a 30-year-old Asian guy sprawled on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head. According to authorities, he was taken to a hospital and died early Thursday morning.

Two firearms were seized at the location. There have been no charges filed, and the inquiry is still underway.
