Authorities in South Florida say a tiny plane crashed onto a bridge on Saturday afternoon, injuring one person. A tiny plane crashed in South Florida on Saturday, injuring one person.

As emergency personnel reacted to the incident, the Bay Harbor Islands Police Department restricted the area to traffic. Onlookers could see smoke and flames flying out of the plane’s wreckage as they watched the event develop.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that “a single-engine Cessna 172 lost engine power and crashed on the Haulover Inlet Bridge on Route A1A near Bal Harbour, Fla., at 1:00 p.m. local time today.” “There were three passengers on board. The plane collided with a vehicle on the bridge, which was carrying three passengers. The plane took off from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and was headed to Key West International Airport.”

The FAA also stated that it, along with the National Transportation Safety Board, will investigate the crash.
