Authorities said Wednesday that a Maryland man was detained after making multiple threats of mass violence on an elementary school and a neighborhood business.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Earl Benjamin Washington, 46, of Lexington Park, was arrested in St. Mary’s County.

Authorities claimed Washington contacted a White Plains company and Gale-Bailey Elementary School on Tuesday and made violent threats.

The sheriff’s office stated that “the calls to the specified places are linked to persons he knows and is suspected to be domestic-related.”

The threats occurred on the same day that an 18-year-old shooter massacred 21 people, including 19 children, at a Uvalde, Texas primary school. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded by stating that it will enhance its presence at nearby schools for the balance of the school year.

“Despite the fact that there is no particular danger to our schools at this time, police will be on hand to give support, comfort, and security to our children and employees. We are all with you “According to the sheriff’s office.
