A paramedic was shot inside an ambulance in New York City by a guy he was bringing to the hospital, but two good Samaritans intervened and apprehended the fleeing culprit. EMTs from Richmond University Medical Center responded to complaints of a disorderly individual at the Funkey Monkey Lounge on Staten Island at about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.

EMTs saw a 37-year-old male in front of the pub and took him to the ambulance when they arrived. The patient flashed a revolver and fired one bullet inside the ambulance while traveling Forest Avenue to the Richmond University Medical Center, injuring a 25-year-old EMT in the shoulder, according to NYPD Inspector Mark Molinari.

The ambulance was pulled over near 646 Forest Ave. when the patient left through the back door. A veteran NYPD detective and an off-duty Department of Sanitation police officer immediately detained the suspect, according to Molinari. The pistol reportedly used to fire an EMT inside an ambulance was photographed by the NYPD.

“I heard the female EMT scream, ‘He shot my buddy,’ and that’s when I realized something occurred. “That’s when I realized I needed to act.”

“I knew he might flee at any moment — that pistol could be used.” “I chose to take that gun out of the equation.” Inspector Mark Molinari of the NYPD speaks to reporters after an EMT was shot inside an ambulance.

According to Molinari, the alleged shooter had a previous run-in with the cops, an “emotionally disturbed person event.” The inspector stated that it was unclear if the pistol was registered.

Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has made combating growing violent crime a top priority of his administration since taking office in January. According to The Associated Press, a New York City police officer was wounded in the arm last week, and the shooter was killed in a gunfight in the Bronx.
