China welcomes UN High Commissioner

China welcomes the planned visit of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to China in May, according to a foreign ministry official on Wednesday.

Bachelet will visit the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China during her visit. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ preparation team has arrived in China and is being quarantined in compliance with the anti-COVID-19 regulations, according to spokeswoman Zhao Lijian during a daily news conference.

“The preparation team has begun work,” he added, “and the two parties are negotiating the particular arrangements for the visit.”
