According to two witnesses, a female student in Nigeria was beaten to death and set on fire by fellow students who accused her of making “blasphemous” words in a WhatsApp group.

Following the incident, the school in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Sokoto was promptly closed down.

According to a spokeswoman for the Sokoto state command, two suspects have been detained in connection with the death of the student, Deborah Samuel.
“The students utilise a WhatsApp group, and her Muslim fellow student wrote an Islamic article.” “She criticised the posting,” stated one of the witnesses, who did not want to be identified.

“She created an audio that contains disrespectful remarks about Islam’s prophet and shared it in the group.” That is what caused everything.”

According to witnesses, school security and police attempted to save the girl but were swamped by the pupils.

“Police blasted tear gas on the students… then began shooting rounds in the sky to disperse the protesters, but they resisted,” said Summayya Usman Inname, a second-year student.

“The police sacrificed the lady after the students began throwing sticks and stones at them, and then the students battered the lady with stones and sticks.” She was beaten and set on fire.”

In a statement, the Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto announced it was closed indefinitely “after today’s early morning student rampage.”

The Sokoto Sultanate Council criticised the “unfortunate events… that resulted in the death of a female student at the school.”

Nigeria is divided into two parts: the south, which is predominantly Christian, and the north, which is predominantly Muslim. Such incidents are quite unusual.
