According to the website, “After School Satan Club[s]” are needed to create a “contrasting balance” to students’ after-school activities.

The Satanic Temple’s co-founder, Lucien Greave, told the publication that the group’s goal was not to promote Satanism, but rather critical thinking.

“We’re not attempting to promote Satanism or to disparage other religious groups. Our group focuses on critical thinking, scientific rationality, and creative problem solving “Greave explained.

June Everett, the After School Satan Club’s campaign director and an ordained minister of the Satanic Temple, told “When they received Good News Club Permission Slips in their children’s backpacks in late February of this year, a group of parents requested After School Satan Club at Joyner.
