Roza-e-Rasool (SAWW) protest: Sheikh Rashid’s nephew arrested at Islamabad Airport

ISLAMABAD: Sheikh Rashid Shafique, the nephew of All Pakistan Muslim League chief Shiekh Rashid, was arrested on blasphemy charges for his alleged role in protest against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet members at the holy mosque of Madinah on Sunday.

The arrest was made by the Faisalabad police at Islamabad International Airport in the early hours of the day. Shafique was returning home after Umrah.

As many as 150 people, including former prime minister Imran Khan, have been nominated in the blashphemy case and others filed at the Madina Town police station on the requuest of a citizen, Muhammad Naeem.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation members on their arrival at the Roza-e-Rasool (SAWW), recieved derogatory remarks by the Pakistani people present there.  They came across slogans of “Chor Chor” (thief). The guards had to save the official Pakistani delegation from the enraged crowd.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb has condemned incident of passing derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his delegation by some section of society at Roza-e-Rasool (SAWW).

In a video message on Thursday night, she said holy lands like that of Madina Manawara (SAWW) should not be used for political gains. Terming such incidents as destruction to society, she said our workers were also there, but they were instructed not to adopt such attitudes.  The Information Minister regretted that there is a section of the society, which is maintaining such hateful traditions. She said it will take time, but these attitudes will change with our positive attitude.
