Sheikh Mohamed was chosen by the Federal Supreme Council, according to WAM news agency, after years of working behind the scenes while his half-brother Sheikh Khalifa remained ill.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s long-time de facto ruler, was chosen president on Saturday, state media said, a day after former leader Sheikh Khalifa died.

Sheikh Mohamed was chosen by the Federal Supreme Council, according to WAM news agency, after years of working behind the scenes while his half-brother Sheikh Khalifa remained ill.
