Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was appointed prime minister on Thursday, stated in a speech to the nation that the country urgently needs $75 million in foreign currency to pay for essential imports.

“At the moment, we barely have enough fuel for a day.” “The next several months will be the most challenging of our lives,” he predicted.

“We must prepare to make some sacrifices and confront the challenges of this time.”
