Two troops were killed in a multi-vehicle collision near Anchorage, Alaska, according to the US Army. The Army says Spc. Wyne Lyndon Jacob Abonita, 22, and Pvt. Valsin David Tate Jr., 23, was killed in a car accident that injured two others. Both individuals were members of the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment’s 2nd Battalion.

On the route approaching Anchorage on Friday, drivers of a Dodge Challenger and a Mitsubishi Galant lost control of their automobiles. According to authorities, the Challenger collided with a tree, injuring both occupants.

The Galant crashed with a Toyota pickup truck, driving both vehicles into the highway median and into oncoming traffic, where the Galant collided with a Chevrolet.

The two troops in the Galant were pronounced deceased at the site of the collision. This is not the first tragedy to afflict US troops in the country’s northernmost state. The Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Parachutist Badge are among his honors and decorations.

Tate enlisted in the Army in October 2018 and trained in Fort Jackson, Fort Sill, and Fort Benning. According to the Army, he landed in Alaska in April 2019. The Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Parachutist Badge are among his honors and decorations.
