Abbott orders that all school districts receive active shooter training

- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott instructed the ALERRT Center to give active shooter training to school districts across the state.
- This training must commence before the start of the following school year.
- The governor also authorized school safety personnel to undertake “unannounced, random intruder detection audits”.
In the aftermath of the recent Robb Elementary School tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott instructed the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) at Texas State University to give active shooter training to school districts across the state.
“I instruct that you provide your nationally known active shooter training to all Texas school districts, with a focus on school-based law enforcement.

However, Blair stated that the ALERRT Center’s focus in the next weeks and months will be on training school resource officers.
The ALERRT Center was formed at Texas State University in 2002. They trained more than 130,000 law enforcement and fire personnel.
“This debate will serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of continual vigilance in every school corridor and classroom.
