CTD arrests MQM-L target killer from Surjani Town

KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday raided a house in Surjani Town, Karachi, and arrested a target killer belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L).

According to details, the suspect has been identified as Ghazanfar Ali alias Ali Mota, who murdered a local official of a religious organisation, Qari Muhammed Ameen, on February 23, 2013.

During the murder incident, Ali Mota was accompanied by his accomplice Nadeem Abbas, who was arrested on the spot. While, Ghazanfar Ali was declared a wanted criminal.

In-charge CTD Chaudhry Ghulam Safdar said the suspect was being handed over to the relevant police for further legal procedure as more revelations were expected from him.

On February 21, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Karachi had acquitted activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement – London (MQM-L) including three alleged target killers on lack of evidence, Bol news channel had reported.

The prosecution had remained failed to prove Raees Mama, Shahid Japani, and others including Kashif, Atif Ali, and Ayaz guilty of the offences.

The police had maintained that the suspects had caused chaos in the Landhi area of Karachi in 2013 on the directives of the then MQM leadership.
