Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-mast.

“On June 12, 2016, at Pulse Nightclub, a gunman claiming allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant perpetrated a heinous act of terrorism against the LGBTQ and Hispanic populations,” DeSantis said. “It was the worst mass shooting in US history at the time.”

“I signed the accompanying Proclamation instructing the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to flown at half-staff at all municipal and state facilities as a symbol of respect for the victims, their families, and the many touched by this tragedy.”

The incident resulted in the deaths of 49 persons and the injuries of another 53. Last year, the Republican governor designated June 12 as “Pulse Remembrance Day.”

DeSantis signed a measure last year prohibiting transgender athletes from participating in women’s and girls’ sports.
