ISLAMABAD: A domestic employee has been arrested for allegedly planting a spying device inside the residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan at Banigala.

PTI spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill presented the suspect before the media, who he said confessed to planting the bugging device at Banigala. He said the 23-year-old who has been working as a domestic employee for the past six years was used for the foiled spying attempt.

Gill said Imran Khan has forgiven the suspect for the crime. “The employee’s life is in danger now. Those who have used him should not violate the sanctity of the home,” he added.

The suspect brought the device while working but was caught red-handed before planting the device. He thanked Imran Khan for forgiving him for his act and confessed that he made a grave mistake.

The employee was allegedly paid to install a device in the former prime minister’s bedroom. However, the spying attempt was foiled after another employee informed the security team. The suspect was subsequently detained and handed over to the federal police.

Dr Shahbaz Gill had asserted that the party had pointed out several times that Imran Khan’s life was under threat. He said they have informed all relevant agencies and the federal government to provide security to the former prime minister.

Gill claimed that an employee who cleans the former premier’s room was paid to install a spy device. While terming the act ‘heinous and unfortunate’, he said their people are being threatened to give information and such acts must be avoided.
