Los Angeles man accused of murdering two El Monte police officers

The man who killed two California cops in a gunfight on Tuesday night committed suicide after allegedly shooting the officers. Justin William Flores, 35, however, accused of killing two police officers in El Monte, California when they were responding to a stabbing at a hotel.
A gunfight ensued when Cpl. Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana approached the suspect. They eventually pronounced dead at a hospital in the Los Angeles area.
Flores died by suicide as a consequence of a gunshot wound to the head. He had a prior strike conviction and was also on probation for being a criminal for two years.

Flores was a gang member who was on probation for a firearms offense at the time of the shooting after receiving a moderate-term through a plea agreement.
Despite having a strike on his criminal record, Flores was able to plead no contest and get a short sentence according to the Gascon policy.
“Given his prior history and the nature of the conduct, the sentence he got in the firearm case was commensurate with case resolutions for this sort of offense,” the statement states.
“Mr. Flores had no recorded history of violence at the time the court convicted him.”
