The protester who scaled the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C to voice his opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision remained there for more than 24 hours.

The protester, Guido Reichstadter, started ascending the bridge Friday at 10 a.m.

Traffic however halted while authorities made touch with Reichstadter who was standing on the bridge.

Reichstadter intended to spend as much time as possible on the bridge. His water bottle had fallen to the ground at the top of the bridge, leaving him dehydrated.

In response to the Supreme Court’s decision, Reichstadter hopes the stunt will encourage widespread civil disobedience.

He tweeted on Friday, “If I can get to the top of this ever-loving bridge, I know you can get into the street.” “Let’s peacefully shut it down every day until our rights are secured. Love to all of you, I’ll be up here!”
