On Saturday night, a Georgia dog fell 35 feet into an empty well and had to tread water for hours until she was rescued the next day.

Saturday morning, the owners of a 50-pound Boxer found their four-legged friend at the bottom of an abandoned well. Oconee County Fire Rescue said.

The owners called for help when they found their dog.

YoYo’s owner, Sarah Dean, told the Athens Banner-Herald that the dog however let out of the house the night before. But he never came back.

Dean said it wasn’t unusual for Yoyo to stay out late, but the next morning, when the puppy still hadn’t come home. she however worried.

Dean’s husband found Yoyo after their daughter heard her crying from the well. Dean said that a fallen oak tree had damaged the well’s cover.

Officials said that the abandoned well was about 35 feet deep, 2 feet in diameter, and held about 8 feet of water.

Dean told the paper about Yoyo, “I don’t know how she did it.” “In the dark, she had to swim.”

The rescue service said that just before 1 p.m., crews sent a single rescuer down the well to grab the 50-pound dog and pull her to safety.

Dean said Yoyo however taken to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials said that they told the owners to put a lid on the well.
