According to video that has been widely shared online, protests have broken out at the largest iPhone manufacturing in the world in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou.
Videos show hundreds of employees protesting, with some coming face to face with riot police and those wearing hazmat suits.
Those watching the protests livestreamed claims that police beat up employees. Videos also included fights.
Foxconn, a manufacturer, declared that it would cooperate with local authorities and employees to stop further violence.
The company acknowledged that some employees had concerns regarding pay but assured them that it would honour contracts for pay.
It also referred to rumors that fresh recruits were required to live in dorms with staff members who were Covid-positive as “patently wrong” and false.
Before new residents came in, dormitories were cleaned and inspected by local authorities, according to Foxconn.
The plant was shut down last month because to an increase in Covid cases, which led several employees to leave early and go home. The business then hired new personnel by promising them large bonuses.
A livestreaming website uploaded video of employees yelling: “Maintain our rights! Maintain our liberties!”
Other employees were observed using sticks to break windows and security cameras.
“We were unable to receive the subsidies as they had promised because they modified the contract. They place us in quarantine but don’t give us food, “a Foxconn employee stated during his live video.
“We’ll keep fighting if they don’t take our needs into account.”
In addition, he stated that he had witnessed a man who had been “severely hurt” by police beating.
According to a new hire at the Zhengzhou facility who spoke with the media, Foxconn “modified the contract they promised” and that is why workers are complaining.
He claimed that some recently hired employees were concerned about catching Covid from employees who had worked there during the prior outbreak.
The employee explained that the protesting workers wanted a stipend so they could go back home.
On Wednesday morning, he claimed, there was a significant police presence at the business. Numerous armed police officers were seen at the scene in other livestreamed recordings.
“I didn’t know the exact reason why people are protesting but they are mixing us new workers with old workers who were [Covid] positive,” he told the media.

In late October, a large number of employees left the facility due to an increase in Covid cases and claims of employee mistreatment.
As they took vehicles back to their hometowns elsewhere in the central Chinese province, their escape was documented on social media.
Since then, the company has implemented so-called closed loop operations at the facility, preventing it from being accessed by the rest of Zhengzhou because to a Covid epidemic there.
Apple stated earlier this month that it anticipated fewer sales of iPhone 14 models due to the production stoppage in Zhengzhou.
