Keegan-Michael Key featured as ‘Key & Peele’ substitute teacher
Keegan-Michael Key is back in the streamer’s most recent commercial as “Substitute Teacher” Mr. Garvey, who loses it over Paramount’s many family-friendly IPs. Paramount+ may have just released the funniest streaming advertisement yet, featuring the return of a beloved Key & Peele character.
Advertising is crucial when the streaming conflicts are at their most intense. A lot of inventive advertisements have previously been released to emphasize a particular streamer’s extensive library.
Mr. Garvey is depicted in the advertisement as a teacher at Paramount Mountain’s iconic Survival School. With nothing more than his well-known button-up t-shirt, he is adequately attired for the freezing tundra.
If you’ve seen the comedic character’s earlier skits, you already know what happens next: roll call. There’s something particularly humorous about Mr. Garvey loosing his head over largely Nick Jr. characters like Blaze, Blue, and Big Nate.
The short-tempered teacher exaggerates and spells everyone’s name incorrectly as usual. The way Mr. Garvey reacts to Blue, sometimes known as “Bee-Louie,” from Blue’s Clues is extremely noteworthy.
Additionally, there are sexy figures like Krumm from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters will give 90s Nickelodeon fans the stomach-churning nostalgia they crave.
But a replacement teacher skit wouldn’t be complete without Mr. Garvey smashing a clipboard over his knee, and this time it’s Dora from Dora the Explorer who pushes the instructor to the brink.
Spanish is certainly not Mr. Garvey’s favourite language, or maybe it was just Dora’s contagious enthusiasm. Thankfully, Los Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald is here to play the role of “A-A-Ron” for Mr. Garvey.
One of the top sketch comedy programmes in television history was Key & Peele, which ran on Comedy Central for five seasons. Jordan Peele, Key’s co-star, and both of them were propelled to celebrity by it.
The most well-known of their several memorable sketches is probably “Substitute Teacher.” The simplicity and relatability of it, together with Key’s sincerely funny performance, let Mr. Garvey endure over time.
It never gets old to see Mr. Garvey freak out over a name, no matter how many times you see it. Because of this, it’s wonderful to see Paramount revive the character in this new commercial in all his splendor.
This survival lesson will go down in history as one of the funniest advertisements a streamer has ever done, and Key hasn’t missed a beat.
When compared to the other studio-owned streaming services, Paramount+ always seems to be having the most fun.
You can’t really blame Paramount because the studio overall had the best year in 2022 thanks to successes like Scream, Smile, and Top Gun: Maverick.
This new humorous advertisement is sure to increase interest in Paramount+, one of the most undervalued streaming services around.
On the service right now, you can watch all of Key & Peele in addition to popular Nickelodeon shows like Blue’s Clues and Dora the Explorer. The Mr. Garvey-focused Instagram advertisement and earlier “Substitute Teacher” sketches may be seen below.
