Prince Andrew plans to file £10 million lawsuit against the accuser and claims the photo was fake
Prince Andrew is said to have amassed a £10 million “war chest” to pursue legal action against Virginia Giuffre.
The disgraced royal is said to want to clear his name following accusations against him, as well as links to paedophile and ex-pal Jeffrey Epstein and criminal Ghislaine Maxwell.
Ms Giuffre filed a civil suit alleging that Andrew had sex with her three times in 2001, when she was 17 years old.
The 62-year-old has always denied all allegations, and a civil sex abuse case in the United States with Ms Giuffre was settled out of court for a reported £12 million. Andrew continues to deny any wrongdoing, so the settlement is not an admission of guilt on his part.
However, it has now been reported that he is attempting to clear his name after being “pressured” into settling the case in order to avoid overshadowing the Platinum Jubilee.
Giuffre, 38, withdrew a sex abuse allegation against US lawyer Alan Dershowtiz and admitted she “may have made a mistake,” according to reports.
“Andrew has always insisted he is innocent and finally wants to prove it in a US court,” a royal source told The media.
“He was pressured into settling the case to avoid overshadowing the Platinum Jubilee.”
The report also added that King Charles was said to be “happy” for him to chase this and even though he wouldn’t publicly back him he still wants “the best for him”.
Andrew is expected to claim in court that he never met Ms Giuffre and that a famous photo of them with Maxwell was staged.
The US civil sex case was settled last year, just before Prince Andrew was scheduled to appear before a jury.
The Duke of York has been widely chastised for his association with Epstein, and even stayed at his mansion shortly after the financier was released from prison for child sex offences in February 2011.
