Noor, a Pakistani film that strives to increase awareness of the effects of childhood eye impairment, has enjoyed success at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The schoolgirl in the short film directed by Umer Adil struggles with bad eye health, and it sheds light on her challenges related to vision impairment.

The movie won the title of “Best Health Film” in the International Film Festival’s online competition. On Monday, the renowned International Film Festival announced the winners for the online version and praised the initiative for its significance because millions of youngsters suffer from short- and long-sightedness, which has an impact on their growth, chances, and abilities.

Umer Adil, the director of the winning “Best Health Video,” posted a photo of the moment on Instagram. In a message on social media, the film’s production company wrote: ‘Proud moment for Pakistan as short film ‘Noor’ wins big at Cannes World Film Festival!

The post further included: “With stars like Sarwat Gilani and Omair Rana, this film highlights the importance of equal eye healthcare for a fulfilling and equal life. Let’s continue using films for change and raising awareness to make the world a better place for generations to come.”

Noor was previously nominated for the January 2023 edition of the Cannes International Film Festival together with another Pakistani film, Pehchaan, strengthening Pakistan’s prominence in the global cinema industry. The film’s director described it as a “heartfelt narrative” in a previous post, shedding light on the challenges that many people encounter as a result of cultural myths and taboos, particularly youngsters who suffer the most in silence. The script for the movie was written by Farah Usman, and it also stars Sarwat Gilani, Omair Rana, Tanisha Shameem, Mizna Waqas, and Tasneem Ansari in major roles.
