PHC imposes ban on using number plates of departments
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court(PHC) has imposed a ban on putting number plates of departments and professionals on vehicles.
The Peshawar High Court, while banning the installation of number plates by various departments and professionals, ordered the government to take legal action against those who install such number plates.
According to the PHC, apart from the official number plate, departmental, professional, or any private number plates will be removed from the vehicles.
The court remarked that in many cases, it was observed that departmental, professional, and private number plate vehicles are used for drug trafficking. On September 9, the police caught a vehicle in Mardan, whose number plate belongs to the Peshawar High Court Bar Association was named (APL 2023-KPk).
According to the court, traffickers use number plates of the Health Department, Lawyers, Judiciary, Police, and Excise, etc. To avoid the sight of law enforcement agencies all officers, whether official or private, shall wear the number plate allotted by the Government.
The court also said that the Additional Registrar should send a copy of the High Court judgment to the Chief Secretary, IG Police, Secretary of Excise, Director of Prosecution, Registrar of High Court, and Secretary of KP Bar Council.
