Kuwait launches electronic driving licenses for expats

Kuwait transitioned on Monday to electronic driving licenses for expatriates, as per Ministerial Resolution No. (410) of 2023, approved by Sheikh Talal Al Khaled, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

These licenses have a one-year validity and can be conveniently renewed through the Ministry of Interior’s website or the “Sahel” government app, eliminating the need for physical copies.

The initiative, aimed at the General Traffic Department, streamlines the renewal process, allowing expats to renew their licenses electronically. Activation of the new licenses can be done through the dedicated “Kuwait Mobile ID” section within the app.

Residents can easily verify license status using the “Kuwait Mobile ID” app, with a green mark indicating validity and a red mark signaling expiration.

It’s important to note that this digital transition does not apply to domestic and international truck drivers. Kuwaiti residents traveling abroad are advised to use licenses from their respective countries.

This shift to electronic licenses aligns with Kuwait’s digital transformation goals, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce paperwork in the licensing process.
