PTI announces to challenges ECP’s notice on intra-party polls
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to challenge the Election Commission of Pakistan’s notice on intra-party elections.
In the recent intra-party election of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the party appointed Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as party chairman in place of Imran Khan and Umar Ayub as secretary general.
Former federal minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was elected as Vice Chairman while former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was elected as President in PTI’s intra-party election.
A few days ago, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder member Akbar S. Babar and other leaders challenged PTI’s intra-party elections and demanded new elections by declaring them null and void.
The petitioners said that PTI’s intra-party elections are also against the party constitution, neither election forms nor voter lists were issued. “We wanted to participate in the elections but no one was present in the PTI secretariat” they added.
The Election Commission issued a notice to the PTI on the petitions and sought a response to the pleas filed against the intra-party elections.
Now PTI has decided to challenge the Election Commission’s notice on intra-party elections in the court.
Vice President PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Zahir Shah Toru said that he will file a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court against the notice of the ECP.
Zahir Shah Toru said that there are signatures of central and provincial leaders on the petition prepared against the Election Commission’s notice.
