In 2023, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) successfully implemented traffic improvements at 14 locations, marking a significant step toward enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure.

These initiatives, part of the RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvements Plan, have resulted in a notable reduction of travel time by up to 60% and an increase in road capacity by as much as 25%. This plan is part of a broader strategy to implement 45 traffic solutions across Dubai in the 2023–2024 period.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, the CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA, emphasized the organization’s dedication to executing the directives of leaders and addressing the challenges posed by demographic and urban expansion.

The overarching goal is to advance infrastructure, expand road network capacity, and align with Dubai’s sustainable growth for the well-being of its population.

Looking ahead to 2024, the RTA plans to continue its efforts, targeting 31 sites for further improvements. Key areas such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Baker Al Siddique Street, Al Rebat Street, Al Khail Road, and Al Meydan Street will be among the focus points.

Noteworthy achievements in 2023 include the enhancement of the free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Center Street, effectively doubling capacity, improving traffic flow, and significantly reducing travel time.

Similar success stories include the expansion of lanes on Al Fay Street’s roundabout, reducing travel time by 50% for entering and exiting the Dubai Production District and Dubai Sports City District.

Other impactful measures include the introduction of a free exit from Al-Saba Street to Garn Al Sabkha Street toward Dubai Marina, resulting in a substantial 60% reduction in congestion and travel times.

CEO Al Ali also highlighted the widening of various exits and intersections, reinforcing the commitment to create a more efficient and accessible transportation network for the residents of Dubai. The ongoing efforts reflect the RTA’s dedication to alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing the overall travel experience in the Emirates.
