The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai and Etihad Rail, the UAE’s national railway network operator, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to integrate the RTA’s Nol card system for ticket booking and fare payment on Etihad Rail’s passenger trains.
This move, initiated at the World Governments Summit (WGS), aims to offer efficient digital services to passengers across the UAE. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed stressed the importance of user-friendly digital services, while Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed emphasized leveraging the RTA’s expertise in smart technologies.
The No l system, boasting over five million active users and 30 million cards sold since its inception in 2009, is undergoing digital upgrades for enhanced functionality. Although no confirmed launch date has been announced, Etihad Rail’s passenger services are set to connect 11 cities, promising quicker commute times and catering to over 36.5 million passengers annually by 2030.
Etihad Rail recently conducted its inaugural passenger journey between Abu Dhabi city and the Al Dhannah region, offering a glimpse of its upcoming passenger trains.
