ISLAMABAD: Iranian social media and official news agency have been once again found involved in spreading fake news regarding the arrest of Muhammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori in Iran.

Iranian official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency(IRNA)  has claimed the arrest of Muhammad Ajmal aka Akram Lahori in Iran.

However,  Akram Lahori was sentenced to death in the famous poet Mohsin Naqvi’s murder case. The convicted killer is still in Hyderabad Jail in Sindh province.

Akram Lahori, a resident of Mirpurkhas, Sindh province has been jailed for multiple counts of sectarian target killings and is the founder of the sectarian militant outfit Laskar e Jhangiv along with Riaz Basra.

The Pakistani authorities have also released the latest photo of Muhammad Ajmal aka Akram Lahori from Hyderabad Jail and also shared it with Iranian officials.

Earlier IRNA claimed that a leader of the Pakistani Sunni militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has been arrested in southern Iran on charges of involvement in an anti-Shia terror group and attending bomb-making training courses in Pakistan.

Akram Lahori was planning to travel to Sunni-majority Qeshm Island, as reported by state media. Lahori, also known as Muhammad Ajmal, was granted bail by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court in October last year, implicated in a 27-year-old murder case involving renowned poet Mohsin Naqvi.
