In a departure from the traditional notion of parks as technology-free zones, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has taken a progressive step by announcing free Wi-Fi access in public parks across Peshawar. This move recognizes the importance of connectivity and digital access in today’s tech-driven era, enhancing the overall experience for park visitors.

The decision to introduce free Wi-Fi was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, focusing on urban maintenance and recreational projects. The initiative aims to keep people connected, facilitate remote work, and offer entertainment options while enjoying the outdoors.

Chief Minister Gandapur directed relevant authorities to finalize plans for the free Wi-Fi service, which will require provincial government approval. He also hinted at the possibility of extending the service to other cities in the future, demonstrating a forward-looking approach to technology integration in public spaces.

Alongside the Wi-Fi initiative, the meeting also discussed the launch of a bus rapid transit (BRT) service on Nasir Bagh Road. This strategic move is expected to greatly enhance citizens’ travel experiences and contribute to improved transportation infrastructure in Peshawar.

Emphasizing the importance of sustainability, Chief Minister Gandapur highlighted initiatives such as converting street lights to solar power and prioritizing underpasses over overhead bridges. Immediate construction and repair work on roads, especially along the BRT Corridor at University Road, was also underscored for efficient city management.
