More rains, snowfall expected in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In Lahore, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted extensive rain, wind, and thunderstorms, along with isolated hailstorms and snowfall over the hills in Peshawar and certain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from March 10 to March 13.

According to the current synoptic situation, a westerly wave is expected to enter Balochistan by March 9 (Saturday) and will likely extend to the upper parts of Pakistan by March 11 (Monday). Additionally, another westerly wave is anticipated to enter Pakistan by March 12 (Tuesday).

Given these circumstances, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Bajaur, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram from March 10 (evening/night) to March 14. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms are also anticipated on March 13 and March 14.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Heavy rainfall, accompanied by isolated heavy snowfall, could lead to road closures in Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Shangla on March 13 and March 14.

Wind-thunderstorm and hailstorms have the potential to cause damage to loose structures such as electric poles and solar panels. Tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, and farmers are advised to exercise caution regarding their crops.

Over the past 24 hours, Peshawar and much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced cold and dry weather conditions. Freezing temperatures were reported in the upper districts during this period.
