DIAMER: As many as at least 20 people lost their lives and 21 others were injured as a passenger bus fell into a deep ditch in the Diamar district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rescue sources said a passenger bus met with an accident early in the morning in Yashokhal area on the Karakoram highway, resulting in the death of 20 people and 21 injuries.

The passenger bus that was involved in the accident was going to Gilgit from Rawalpindi.

After receiving the information about the accident in the early morning, the local people reached the accident site and started rescue operations, while the police and rescue personnel also reached the accident site after some time. After reaching the rescue operation started.

After the accident, an emergency has been declared in the regional hospital and appeals have been made to the citizens to donate blood for the injured.

On the other hand, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in a bus accident that took place near Chilas.

The president prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss. He also prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the accident.
