Pakistan is dealing with high inflation rates, so there’s talk of setting aside money for discounts on five essential foods in the upcoming budget. The Ministry of Industries and Production has asked utility stores for suggestions for next year’s budget. These ideas will likely be part of the Prime Minister’s Relief Package budget, which ends on June 30th.

Currently, about Rs. 3 billion per month is spent on discounts for five key items like sugar, flour, ghee, pulses, and rice, especially for people in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The discounted prices are Rs. 109 per kilogram for sugar, Rs. 648 for a 10-kilogram bag of flour, and Rs. 393 per kilogram for ghee at utility stores for BISP beneficiaries.

Including these discounts in the budget shows the government is trying to help people cope with rising prices and tough economic times.
