In a recent development, the Nanbai Association, representing the traditional breadmakers of Punjab, has announced a province-wide strike scheduled to commence tomorrow. This decision, which extends to Lahore, the provincial capital, follows what the association perceives as a lack of response from the district administration regarding their grievances.

The strike declaration comes as a direct response to what the association views as the administration’s indifference towards their demands. For some time now, the Nanbai Association has been advocating for a review of the pricing structure for bread and naan, the staple food items in the region.

Members of the association have expressed their intent to halt operations of their tandoors, traditional clay ovens, throughout Punjab. This move is anticipated to disrupt the supply of freshly baked bread and naan to numerous households and eateries across the province.

At the core of the Nanbai Association’s demands is the issuance of a new notification addressing their concerns regarding bread and naan pricing. They argue that the existing prices fail to reflect the economic realities they encounter.

Additionally, the association is pushing for a transparent pricing policy for naan and insists on flour, the primary ingredient for bread, being supplied at rates commensurate with the pricing of affordable bread.
