RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) and service chiefs on Thursday condemned criminal activities during May 9 riots, 2023.
Describing May 9 as a dark chapter in the nation’s history, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that politically motivated and indoctrinated troublemakers intentionally engaged in violence against state institutions and defaced significant symbols of national heritage.
On May 9 of the previous year, unruly mobs wreaked havoc on both private and public properties, including military installations, following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The military’s media outlet highlighted that those behind this orchestrated chaos sought to sow discord and falsely blame state institutions, aiming to distort the narrative to their advantage.
The ISPR emphasized that there can be no compromise with the planners, facilitators, and perpetrators of the May 9 incident, asserting that they will be held accountable under the law. Ensuring justice for the true culprits of May 9 is imperative to prevent future disrespect toward national heroes and symbols of unity.
Despite the orchestrated violence, Pakistan’s Armed Forces exercised restraint, thwarting the insidious agenda of those seeking to destabilize the country.
The military reiterated its commitment to safeguarding Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, pledging to honor the dignity of martyrs and their families. It underscored the special bond between the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.
The statement called upon the nation to unite in condemning schemes aimed at weakening Pakistan and to collaborate in fostering prosperity and stability. It concluded with the rallying cry, “Long live Pakistan Armed Forces, Long live Pakistan.”
