Federal Govt announces two-day Muharram holiday

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared public holiday on 9th and 10th of Muharram.

According to the notification, Prime Minister is pleased to declare 16th and 17th July, 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH),” a notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated.

According to the notification, July 16 and 17 will be a public holiday across the country.

It should be noted that the federal government has also approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces throughout the country during Muharram, while the provinces will be consulted on the banning of mobile phones, internet and social media apps.

The interior ministry notification states that the details of troop deployment, which will be enforced for an indefinite period, will be finalised with the authorities concerned, including the government of Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad.

Earlier,  Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has allowed the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to intercept and trace calls in the interest of national security.

The Federal Cabinet gave its approval to authorize the designated officer of the spy agency to trace the call, which was given through circulation.
