Federal Govt formally allows ISI to trace, intercept calls
ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has allowed the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to intercept and trace calls in the interest of national security.
The Federal Cabinet gave its approval to authorize the designated officer of the spy agency to trace the call, which was given through circulation.
According to the statement, the approval of the summary has been given in view of apprehension of an offense in the interest of national security, while the Cabinet has given this authority under Section 54 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Act, 1996.
The announcement said that the officer who will be nominated by the agency will not be below grade 18.
On the other hand, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Omar Ayub has said that those who give call tracing authority to the sensitive organization will themselves come under call tracing tomorrow.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Omar Ayub said that those who authorize call tracing will go to jail, through the same law Asif Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto and Maryam Nawaz will go to jail.
The opposition leader said that all those who authorized call tracing will appear in the courts.
