FIA starts inquiry for over-billing in electricity bills

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) ​​Anti-Corruption Circle has started an inquiry on the alleged over-billing of protected customers by the Lahore Electric Supply Company(LESCO).

According to the sources, consumers who consume less than 200 units of electricity have been allegedly overbilled. Due to overbilling, the category of these protected customers has changed and they have to bear the additional burden of millions of rupees.

The FIA ​​Anti-Corruption Circle has started an inquiry into the alleged overbilling of protected customers.

According to the FIA ​​spokesperson, notices have been issued to Director Customer Services LESCO and Director General IT, in which billing data and other details have also been sought from LESCO officers.

Director FIA Lahore Sarfraz Virk said that over-billing will not be tolerated under any circumstances, strict action will be taken against those responsible.

Earlier,  protest by petroleum dealers has been effective, leading to the government’s decision to revoke the advance tax imposed on them.

Following the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) deferment of the dealers’ strike, the advance tax was removed, and a formal announcement was made.
