ISLAMABAD: The federal government has taken decisive steps to resolve the ongoing passport issuance crisis by approving the acquisition of additional printing machines, announced here on Thursday.
In response to the pressing need, the Deputy General (DG) Passport and Immigration has drafted a requisition and forwarded it to the Ministry of Home Affairs. This requisition outlines plans to procure six desktops and two e-passport machines. Officials have highlighted that these new machines are capable of printing up to 1,000 passports per hour.
Over the past year, passport issuance across the country has faced significant delays. Issues such as paper shortages and outdated machinery have contributed to the backlog.
The acquisition of new printing machines signifies a critical step towards streamlining passport issuance processes nationwide. Once operational, these machines are expected to expedite the production of passports, addressing long-standing concerns over delays and inefficiencies.
