Karachi: Last night, the temperature broke a 5-year record for August when the residents of the city witnessed the coldest night of the month in 5 years.

The temperature drop followed the intense monsoon spell of this year.

According to the meteorological department, the port city reported a temperature of 23.5°C — at least — marking the coldest night of August in Karachi since 2019.

Before 2019, the lowest temperature recorded for August was 20°C in the year 1984.

On Friday, two people including a woman were killed as intermittent rains with strong winds continued in the metropolis, Rescue officials said.

They said that a tree fell near Stadium Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi, fatally injuring a woman whose identity remains unknown. A 25-year-old man was electrocuted in Korangi Sector 51. The victim was identified as Sameer.

A number of trees in different areas of the city including Clifton, Defence and Azizabad have fallen due to strong gale. Resultantly, two vehicles and one motorcycle were damaged.

Moreover, strong winds caused a tree to topple in Gulistan-e-Johar Block 10, while another tree in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 17 fell onto electric wires, disrupting the area’s power supply and affecting traffic flow.
