UAE introduces new visa rules – August 2024

The UAE is taking significant steps to solidify its position as a prime destination for work, investment, entrepreneurship, education, and living by introducing a major restructuring of its entry and residence systems.

This includes new visa rules that offer various types of entry visas and residence permits, as well as expanded categories for the Golden Visa.

UAE’s Entry Visas and Residence Permits

In a recent announcement, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) declared that individuals who have not renewed their residency visas and have accumulated fines will be granted a two-month grace period.

During this period, which starts on September 1, 2024, these fines will be waived, allowing residents to either renew their visas or leave the UAE without incurring any penalties.

Entry Permit for a Temporary Work Mission

Among the new visa rules for 2024 is the entry permit for a temporary work mission. This permit is available for visitors with a temporary work assignment, such as probationary work or project-based missions, provided they are sponsored by their employer.

Relatives or friends of UAE citizens or residents can also apply. Applicants need to submit a temporary work contract or a letter from their employer detailing the visit’s purpose, along with proof of health and fitness to work.

Residence Permit for Humanitarian Cases

The UAE will also issue residence permits for specific humanitarian cases. These include female residents whose UAE national husbands have passed away in the country and who have children, parents or children of UAE citizens holding foreign passports, and spouses and children of Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) state citizens with foreign passports.

Dubai & UAE Re-entry Permit

Additionally, Dubai residents who have stayed outside the UAE for more than six months can now apply for a re-entry permit.

This permit, valid for 30 days after approval, allows residents to return to the UAE without having their residency canceled. Applications for this permit can be made through the ICP official website, with a slightly different process for those holding Dubai-issued visas.
