KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has accepted the petition against the appointment of Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister for urgent hearing.

A petition against the appointment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Ishaq Dar as Deputy Prime Minister was filed in the Sindh High Court, which was heard by Chief Justice Sindh High Court Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui.

0During the hearing, the Chief Justice asked whether your(petitioner) fundamental right is being affected. On this, the petitioner’s lawyer said that under Article 90 and 91, the federal government consists of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet members. “There is no post of Deputy Prime Minister in the Constitution, the Deputy Prime Minister is not accountable to the Senate or the Parliament”.

The court asked that Parvez Elahi had also been the Deputy Prime Minister before, is this petition different from that. On this, the lawyer said that Parvez Elahi’s notification of 2013 was different from this, it was written in this notification that the Deputy Prime Minister will not exercise the powers of the Prime Minister.

The Chief Justice said that the notification of the appointment of Parvaiz Elahi and copies of the decisions of the High Courts should be submitted.
