Omar Abdullah to take oath as IIOJK CM

SRINAGAR:  Omar Abdullah will take oath as the Chief Minister of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Wednesday.

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have also been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

In the recent elections of the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, the National Conference and the Congress won the majority, the alliance of the National Conference won 53 seats in the 90-member Assembly of Occupied Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah will assume the post of Chief Minister of Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for the second time, previously he was the Chief Minister from 2009 to 2014 under the Congress alliance.

It should be noted that on August 5, 2019, the Narendra Modi government abolished the special status of Occupied Kashmir and declared it a Union Territory.

Earlier, President’s rule in Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) has been lifted after 5 years, enabling the formation of a new government.

According to the IIOJK Post-Election update, Omar Abdullah is set to become CM of the IIOJK, with the first Assembly session scheduled for 16 Oct 2024.

Election Results: National Conference (NC) won 42 seats in the assembly elections. Its allies, Congress and Communist Party of India (CPI or CPM), secured six and one seats, respectively. With the support of five independent candidates and one Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, the NC-led alliance has a total of 55 seats.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Nomination: LG has yet to decide on nominating five additional Assembly members. It is anticipated that his nominations may align with the central Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)-led government
