Punjab imposes Section 144 in 8 cities of province

LAHORE: The Punjab Government has imposed Section 144 in 8 cities of province,  banning all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests and other activities.

According to the notification issued by Punjab Home Department, Section 144 was imposed for 3 days in Multan, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Vehari, Pakpattan, Okara and Wazirabad.

From Thursday, October 10 to Saturday, October 12, all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, demonstrations, protests and all such activities have been banned in all these districts.

The notification said that the decision to implement Section 144 was taken at the request of the concerned district administration, in view of security threats, any public gathering can be a soft target for terrorists.

It further said that orders were issued for the establishment of law and order, protection of human lives and property.

The services of 6 companies of Rangers have been called for in Rawalpindi and Attock for October 4 and 5.
