ANF recovers 700kg Ice from container in Karachi

KARACHI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on Wednesday recovered more than 700 kilograms of Ice from a container booked for Malaysia by carrying out a major operation on a tip-off at the South Asia Pakistan Terminal in Karachi.

According to the authorities, the exported methamphetamine (Ice) was being smuggled with bags of calcium carbonate. During a tip-off container search, 854 bags of calcium carbonate were searched, of which 28 bags were found to contain methamphetamine (Ice).

According to ANF officials, the container was booked by a private company based in Karachi for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An accused resident of Karachi, who booked the container, has been arrested, while the process of investigation is going on with the accused to arrest the other accused.

According to ANF sources, the value of the Ice seized from the South Asia Pakistan Terminal is worth millions of rupees in the international market.

On the other hand, an anti-narcotics court of Islamabad has sentenced the 3-member gang, including the husband and wife, to a total of 41 years in prison and a fine of millions of rupees.

Last year, ANF recovered 71.5 kg of opium from Mubasher Hussain, Rehman Iqbal and Zahida.

According to Prosecutor Fahad Malik, opium was recovered from the possession of a 3-member group, the vehicle in which the group was smuggling drugs was also seized.

Prosecutor Fahad Malik said that the laboratory report also came positive and the accused confessed to drug trafficking.

Anti-Narcotics Court Judge Raja Jawad Abbas sentenced the 3-member gang to a total of 41 years in prison and a fine of Rs 1.2 million.
