KP Govt to deploy two FC platoons in Kurram

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish new police check posts and deploy two Frontier Constabulary (FC) platoons in Kurram Highway to ensure peace in the area.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Adviser Barrister Saif said that 2 FC platoons will also be deployed in Kurram along with new police check posts.

Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif said that more than a century of Kurram was successful in a sustainable solution to the dispute, more than 50 Jirga meetings were held to solve the Kurram problem. The Jirga members made sincere efforts while the entire administration including the Commissioner and DIG also did a great role.

Information Adviser KP said that the purpose of the road closure was to prevent further bloodshed and the government was fully aware of the problems due to the road closure. He said Chief Minister dedicated his helicopter for medicines and other services through which approx. 15 tons of medicines were delivered and more than 700 people were airlifted by helicopter.

Barrister Saif said that the demands of the protesters were accepted, after the peace agreement, there is no justification for the sit-ins anymore. He announced that the process of giving compensation to the victims will start soon.

He said that approval has been given to recruit 400 police personnel to secure Kurram highway and 2 FC platoons will also be deployed along with new police check posts.

Earlier, in the ongoing Grand Jirga on the situation of Kurram, the parties signed a peace agreement under which the damages will be redressed and the large arms will be handed over to the government while the fronts created by the parties will be removed and tribal conflict will not be given a religious color.
