ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court in Islamabad on Friday convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the £190 million case.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana pronounced long-awaited judgement in the £190 million case against former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in Adiala Jail.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana awareded 14-year sentence to the PTI founder and a seven-year sentence to his wife Bushra Bibi.

The PTI founder will have to pay a fine of Rs1 million and his wife has been slapped with a fine of Rs0.5 million.

Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, sisters of founder PTI and other party leaders including Barristers Gohar Khan, Shoaib Shaheen, Salman Akram Raja, and other lawyers  were also present in the court room at the time of the verdict by the accountability court.

After the court decision, the jail staff took Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi into custody and now she will also be kept in Adiala jail.

Similarly, team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was present at Adiala jail to attend the announcement of the much-awaited verdict by Judge Nasir Javed Rana.

Previously, the court had delayed the announcement of the verdict in this case three times.

It is important to note that the Accountability Court in Islamabad had reserved its decision in the £190 million reference against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

The hearing was conducted by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana at Adiala Jail, who reserved the verdict after both the prosecution and defense teams completed their arguments.
