Sikandar Sultan Raja term as CEC ends today

ISLAMABAD:  The tenure of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan Sikandar Sultan Raja and two members has ended today.

Sikandar Sultan Raja’s term has come to an end and according to Election Commission rules, it is necessary to elect a new Chief Election Commissioner within 45 days.

Government sources said that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja will continue to work. The Chief Election Commissioner will be appointed according to the constitution.

Under the 26th Amendment, the Chief Election Commissioner will continue to work till the new deployment. The members of Sindh and Balochistan will continue to work till the appointment of new members.

Sources said regarding the appointment of the new Chief Election Commissioner that the Prime Minister and the opposition leader will send three names to the parliamentary committee if they agree.
