ISLAMABAD: On the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stated that the day symbolizes the nation’s resolve, resilience, and unwavering commitment to national defense.

In his message, the Chairman said that May 28 marks the courageous decision Pakistan made to safeguard its national security.

He added that by becoming a nuclear power, Pakistan emerged as the first atomic nation in the Muslim world. “May 28, 1998, is a golden chapter in Pakistan’s defense history,” he remarked.

This day reminds us of the great leaders who laid the foundation for making Pakistan a nuclear power. The historic journey was initiated by the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He further stated that Youm-e-Takbeer reminds us that when a nation stands united, it can overcome any challenge. Pakistan’s nuclear program, he emphasized, is a defensive capability.

It is worth noting that 27 years have passed since Pakistan became the world’s seventh and the Islamic world’s only nuclear power. On this very day, 27 years ago, the nation made history by conducting successful nuclear tests — a day now commemorated as Youm-e-Takbeer.

In response to India’s nuclear tests, Pakistan gave a befitting reply and showcased its nuclear capability with full force, establishing itself as a formidable nuclear state.
